Switching from Rebuilding Together to Habitat for Humanity this year

In 2010 and 2011, the St. Elizabeth Knights led the financing for and coordination of two Rebuilding Together projects. We were ready to sponsor yet another project this year, but after some research, the council, especially our “House Captain”/Grand Knight, decided that we needed a break from the project management and fundraising tasks and wanted something a bit simpler (if cheaper) in which to participate.

This year (2012), we have decided to partner with the Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity on a large project. It’s a project that is still getting its legs to stand, so the specific dates available are changing, but we’re looking at a summer date (July/Aug) for volunteering about 25 helpers. It’s $50/person to volunteer, which is a fraction of the sponsorship cost with Rebuilding Together AND Habitat provides all the leadership. Whew! That’s a load off my shoulders!

So as the date(s) come closer, we’ll be broadcasting that out to the council as well as the Youth Ministry as we’ve worked very well together, and with the parish in hopes of getting some help with the financing. Stay tuned!
